Austin CIVA

> connecting believer artists

I am looking forward to the first Austin CIVA art crawl this Saturday, the 6th! I'm hoping to meet many of you in person for the first time. In case you didn't see the announcement on the events page/list, it will be a come and go social time over at Progress Coffee on 5th. Progress is one of my favorite coffee shops and some of you know I love a latte every once in a while. The idea is to meet, talk, get to know each other a bit, then make plans to take in one or more of the several openings at galleries that evening. We have let Progress know that we are going to start arriving around 5 pm and should go until 6 or later. Over at Art Palace "FICTITIOUS REALITIES / REALISTIC FICTIONS" by Seth Mittag and Elaine Bradford opens from 8 until 10, and at Wally Workman Gallery there is a opening of Helmut Barnett: Maximal/Minimal from 6 to 8 pm. Earlier on the 6th, there is Reset/Replay a conversation with guest curators Marcin Ramocki and Paul Slocum over at Arthouse. There may be other openings happening that evening we can talk about or go to. Exciting! I'd love to know who might be coming and when. You can RSVP over at the events part of our AustinCIVA site. Hope to see you there!

What a fun evening meeting many of you, and going to the Wally Workman and the Art Palace openings! I hadn't been to opening for a while, and loved hanging out and getting to know Travis, Patrick, Jennifer and Jana. I've known Kim and Fran for a while but just never have a chance to spend time with them. I'm already looking forward to the next Art Crawl.
By the way, I'd like to recommend the Art Palace show and especially the creations of Elaine Bradford on display there. She lives and works in Houston, but Arturo Palacis, owner of Art Palace (get it?), has brought her into his stable of artists. I am highly impressed by her work. Fantastical but thought provoking sculptural pieces that made me remember the "alternate realities" we all see as children. If you go don't miss the video she created.

Such a pleasure meeting such cool people at Progress. Didn't get to stay long at the Barnett opening, but really enjoyed our first art crawl. Can't wait until the next one. I had a sinus headache the whole time and still really enjoyed myself.
